1、Magnesium Rod Theoretical Root: The theoretical root of magnesium rod is the principle of cathodic protection. Cathodic protection is an electrochemical terminology, which is to supplement a large number of electrons to the metal to be protected, so that the whole protected metal is in a state of electron surplus, so that all points on the metal surface reach the same negative potential, and metal atoms are not easy to lose electrons and become ions dissolved in solution. There are two ways to realize cathodic protection of metals, impressed current cathodic protection and sacrificial anode cathodic protection.
2、Forced impressed current protection method: Impressed current cathodic protection is to force the current to flow from the soil to the protected metal through the impressed DC power supply and auxiliary anode, so that the potential of the protected metal structure is lower than the surrounding environment. In the electrolytic cell formed by the protected metal and auxiliary anode in the corrosive medium, they are respectively the negative electrode and the positive electrode. The auxiliary anode itself does not consume, but only serves as an intermediary to provide current to the protected metal continuously, so that only reduction reaction occurs on the protected metal surface, thus preventing corrosion. The forced impressed current protection method requires a continuous current, so a potentiostat must be used in this protection scheme to control the current. For this reason, this protection method is generally used in large metal structure equipment, such as the protection of dozens of kilometers long oil pipeline in airport oil depot.
3、Sacrificial Anode Protection Method: Sacrificial anode cathodic protection is to connect the metal with more negative potential or more active potential with the protected metal, and to be in the same electrolyte, so that the electrons on the metal can be transferred to the protected metal, so that the whole protected metal is in a negative and the same potential. That is to say, the primary battery is formed by the two, and the protected metal is oxidized instead of the protected metal, which is consumed by corrosion instead of the protected metal. In short, the sacrificial anode protection method is to find a shield for the metal to be protected, and let this shield complete all the corrosion. After it is sacrificed, we will find a new shield to continue to block the arrow. In a word, it is the lost horse marshal. However, our "horse" was lost on purpose, not under compulsion. This is the principle of magnesium rod protection. The magnesium rod acts as a shield for the tank of the water heater, replacing the corrosion of the tank, thus ensuring the safety of the tank.
